The Pryke Charity The story of the Pryke Trust is one of continual charitable mergers. In January 1961 Miss Florence Mary Anne Pryke of Spelhurst, Kent died leaving her £3,174 13s 6d estate in the trusteeship of the Rector and Churchwardens of the Parish of St Michael’s "for the benefit of the poor". In 1701 Richard Porter left provision in his will for 18 two-penny loaves to be given to the poor weekly. Thomas Mills in 1703 left money to supply bread for the poor and around 1890 farmer William Warne left money to relieve the poor. The 1862 Town Lands Charity owned various houses and land which were sold by auction in the 1920s and the money invested in Treasury Stock. These four charities were incorporated into the Framlingham United Town Charity in 1981 which in turn then merged with the Pryke Charity to form the Pryke Trust in 1990. Today the Pryke Trust makes grants to Framlingham residents who may be in urgent need of a little financial help or, at the discretion of the Trustees, financial help with their education. The Charity meets on the second Tuesday of each month and during 2005 have been able to make twenty grants totaling £715. The Trustees can't always identify townspeople who are in need. If you know of someone in the town who needs a little boost to help them through a difficult patch please let one of the Trustees know or leave a letter addressed to The Pryke Trust at The Volunteer Centre. The Pryke Trust operates in complete confidence.
