September 2007
The Trustees regret to announce that they have had to cancel the project to
build a Community Centre on the site of St Michael’s Rooms, Framlingham.
In 2002 the Trust and the Parochial Church Council agreed a lease option on the
site. Since then the design has received planning permission and there was
considerable success with the award of grants from the Lottery and the
European Regional Development Fund
(ERDF) as well as local authorities and other supporting Charities. The
people of Framlingham have participated in the generation of some £200,000 from
events and donations. Unfortunately the work of obtaining Charity
Commission authority to transfer the land from the Diocese to the local Church
Council has not been completed and the final lease has not been offered to the
Trust in time to secure the vital ERDF grant of £300,000. ERDF had already
considerably extended the date of their offer but this fund has strict rules and
will be closed shortly.
The Trustees will be winding up the affairs of the Trust to meet the
requirements of the Charities Commission and will be taking steps to identify
donors with a view to returning donations in accord with their wishes.
The Trustees would like to thank all those who have supported the project in any
way and who share our great disappointment at this outcome.
Trustees: Paul Briscoe, Dave Griffiths, John Speight,
Vic Stanbrook, Eddie Thompson and
Beryl Whitehead.
Secretary:
