Latest Update on the Green Peril!
Added on Wednesday 2nd August

The Environment Agency have been regularly testing the waters at The Mere and downstream for the presence of the toxic blue-green algae.  At one point earlier in July the Co-op tests were clear, but now the heavy rains have washed it downstream again and the levels there are above the threshold, as they still are at the Mere and its outlet.

Therefore the advice regarding keeping dogs and humans out of the water etc still holds good until further notice. The regular summer visitors, the cattle, which graze the area round the Mere and perform the useful function of keeping down the vegetation, have been removed.
