D-Day Looms for the Old £1 Coin
Added on Wednesday 11th October

By the end of this week the old round £1 coin will cease to be legal tender having been replaced by the lighter, thinner, 12 sided new £1. After the 15th October the old coins can be exchanged at the bank although its reported some may only accept them in bags of 20. So have a good rummage in your pockets and spend those old coins soon. The Royal Mint estimated that 1 in 30 round £'s were counterfeit; the new coins are much harder to copy - they have been called the most secure coins in the world. They carry the 5th portrait of the Queen.
