The New £10 Note
Added on Monday 11th September

On Thursday this week the new £10 will make an appearance. It will be made of polymer like the fiver and despite the annoyance of vegans and vegetarians it will also contain tallow. The launch date coincides with the 200th anniversary of Jane Austen's death in 1817, who is featured on the note with an image taken from a portrait commissioned after her death. Also shown is a quote by Miss Bingley from 'Pride & Prejudice' who said:- 'I declare after all there is no enjoyment  but reading,' along with a picture of Jane's brother's home Godmersham Park, said to be the inspiration of a number of houses in her books. Her brother Edward Austen Knights took the Knights name as a condition of an inheritance.

The note has 2 clusters of rasied dots on the top left-hand corner to help blind and partially-sighted people indentify its value. In the spring of 2018 the old tenners will be phased out.
